Why Is Routine Grooming Essential?

01

Promotes Skin and Coat Health

When you don’t brush regularly, dead hair, dirt and oil will accumulate and eventually mat together. Professional grooming removes dirt and debris, helping prevent skin irritation, infections and hot spots while keeping your pet comfortable.

02

Reduces Shedding and Allergens

Brushing your pet’s coat regularly helps manage excessive shedding, makes coats easier to maintain (especially if they have thick undercoats), and reduces dander buildup, but it does not meaningfully reduce true allergens longterm.

03

Promotes Healthy Nails

Pets with long overgrowth of nails can develop joint problems, walking/running difficulties, and even postural changes. Trimming nails prevents nail breakage, injury, and pain; promotes your pet’s ability to walk/run freely without restriction.

04

Maintains Hygiene

Grooming includes cleaning around the eyes, ears and other sanitary regions to prevent wax buildup, dirt accumulation, bacterial growth that can lead to infections and bad odor. Grooming also enables an owner to identify potential parasite infestation (mites) or yeast infection earlier than would otherwise occur.

05

Enables Early Health Detection

Professionally trained groomers are able to observe minor differences or abnormalities that could possibly go unobserved by owners. Identifying these issues in advance can result in improved health outcomes due to prompt professional veterinary intervention.

06

Prevents Parasites and Infestations

External parasites, such as fleas and ticks, are much easier to detect and eliminate through regular grooming practices, including bathing, brushing and monitoring the condition of a pet’s coat. Grooming also assists in reducing the potential for infestation or provides an opportunity for earlier treatment.

Signs Your Pet Needs a
Grooming Appointment

Regular grooming is important to help prevent problems with your dog’s comfort and cleanliness. If you see any of the following issues develop, take them to a groomer.

Tangled, matted or excessively shedding coat

Bad smell despite regular home care

Long, sharp nails that make noise on hard surfaces

Frequency of scratching licking or skin sensitivity issues

Heavy coat feeling or uncomfortable in warm weather

Seniors who can’t take care of themselves

If you notice any of these changes, it’s a good time to book a grooming session. Regular care prevents discomfort and supports your pet’s overall health and hygiene.

Pet Grooming

Pet safe shampoo and cool to warm water are used in gentle bathing; frequency is based on lifestyle to provide an adequate amount of cleanliness without causing excessive loss of natural oils that could result in irritation or dryness.

Brushing & Dematting

Brushing will help remove dead, loose hair along with dirt, helping distribute natural oils throughout the coat to promote overall health. Regular gentle dematting will also help prevent painful tangles, discomfort, and irritation to the skin, which can lead to infection and open sores.

Nail Trimming & Grinding

Trimming and grinding your pet’s nails at regular intervals will keep their nails at an appropriate length and will prevent problems such as pain, posture problems and injuries caused by long nails. It should be performed with pet friendly instruments when your pet is being handled calmly, and it should always be a non stressful process for your pet.

Hair Cuts & Styling

Your pet will benefit from regular breed specific or custom haircuts to keep their coat looking its best and healthy. Haircuts are best performed immediately following the bath and brush for accuracy, to prevent matting of fur around the face, neck, etc., and to allow you to keep your pet clean, tidy, and easy to manage.

Ear and Eye Cleanings

Cleaning of your pet’s ears and eyes can be done gently to remove wax, debris or discharge from these areas. This type of cleaning helps to prevent infections and irritation in these areas. Also, it allows for the early detection of other conditions such as ear mites, eye inflammation or excessive tear production in your pet.

Flea & Tick Treatment

While we cannot guarantee that our staff will find all fleas or ticks during a grooming session, they will check for both of these pests and support early treatment if either one is found. Early detection of fleas/ticks and prompt treatment can help to keep your pet’s skin and coat healthy and can reduce the risk of flea/tick infestation occurring in your home.

Frequently Asked Questions

Breed, coat length quality and lifestyle determine frequency. Most long haired breeds, such as poodles, shih tzu, persian require grooming approximately every 4 to 6 weeks. Pets with short hair can typically go 8 to 12 weeks but need occasional brushing at home. Some pets that shed heavily may require more frequent appointments.

Yes. Loose undercoat hair is removed from pets during the grooming process which helps prevent matting and promotes healthier coats. While shedding can never be eliminated, regular grooming dramatically decreases the amount of loose hair left behind for owners to clean up.

Pets are handled calmly and gently and we strive to create a low stress environment for our patients. If your pet experiences anxiety, our groomer will work with you to find ways to help ease this. Many pets become more relaxed over time if they consistently come to us for regular appointments.
