The Story That Started Modern Vet
Modern Vet began with one dog who was almost out of options.
In the mid 1990s, our family dog, Dutchie, slipped out of the house and was hit by a car. She arrived at the clinic with life threatening injuries. We were told that due to the extent of her injuries and lack of advanced care, euthanasia would be the "kindest" option for Dutchie. As the clinic was about to close and Dutchie was still severely injured, my father called to stop the euthanasia, took her home, and gave her one more chance. Much to our surprise, Dutchie recovered and went on to spend 8 more wonderful years with our family.
As we watched the painful moment when the veterinarian said, "There is nothing we can do," we realized how important it is for families to have choices, hope and access to advanced care whenever possible. This inspired us to open Modern Veterinary Clinic in 1995 as a place where families have options for their pets, especially those that require complex or critical care.
"The mission has always been to provide pets with every possible chance, especially in complex or critical cases," says Mansoor Alshiha, CEO of Vet Alliance. Dutchie's near loss became our promise to continually strive to move forward in setting higher standards of care.
Since opening, Modern Vet has grown from a single neighborhood practice into multiple branches of a veterinary group that offers advanced diagnostics, multidisciplinary teams and structured referral pathways. Modern Vet clinics work together so that more pets can benefit from specialist care that Dutchie never had access to, guided by one philosophy - as long as there is hope, there is always a reason to try.
