You’ve probably heard that cats can’t eat chickpeas. But what does this mean? Is there some nutritional reason why your cat might not be able to enjoy a bowl of hummus or falafel? Or is it just something you should avoid giving them, period?

Let’s look at the science behind this claim and see if we can clear up any confusion about whether or not your feline friend will enjoy eating chickpeas.

Can cats eat chickpeas?

Chickpeas are safe for cats to eat, but they should not be the only source of protein in your cat’s diet. If you have a healthy cat eating chicken and other meats, then chickpeas are probably fine for them to consume. However, if your cat is already eating enough meat and you want to add another source of protein (chickpeas), then it’s best to limit the amount you give them so that they don’t develop a taste for them.

If your kitty does enjoy eating chickpeas on occasion—and while they’re not harmful in any way—it’s possible that he’ll become dependent upon them and refuse other foods altogether!

This could lead him to develop digestive issues later down the road if left untreated.

Can chickpeas cause diarrhea in cats?

Chickpeas contain lots of fiber, which is something cats are sensitive to. If your cat has diarrhea or if you notice that they’re having loose stools, it’s a good idea to take them in for a checkup with their veterinarian. If you don’t have a vet you trust, contact us at ModernVet – Best Vet Dubai.

If your cat has diarrhea and you suspect that they’ve been eating chickpeas (or any other food) that contains a lot of fiber, try switching them over to another food with less fiber content.

How many chickpeas are safe for cats to eat?

The amount of chickpeas a cat can safely eat is based on size and age. For example, if you have a kitten weighing less than five pounds, you should feed him or her one-half cup of dried chickpeas daily. If your cat is older and weighs more than five pounds but less than ten pounds (or it’s an adult), then you should give them one-third cup of dried chickpeas daily. And if your pet is older than 10 lbs., start feeding them two tablespoons per day until their weight drops below 10 lbs.

Health Benefits of Chickpeas for Cats

Benefits

  • Chickpeas are a good source of protein and fiber.
  • They also contain iron, which is essential for red blood cell production.
  • In addition to these nutrients, chickpeas have antioxidants that help prevent damage from free radicals in your cat’s body.

Conclusion

We hope this information helps you understand your cat’s dietary needs and how chickpeas can be added to their diet. Chickpeas are a great source of protein, fiber, healthy fats and other nutrients that may help to keep your cat healthy. You can give them as an occasional treat or add them to their regular meals if they seem hungry enough!
